Description

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin. It  is synthesized in the body mainly through the effect of ultraviolet radiation of the sun on our skin. It  is also absorbed by consuming certain foods. The main role of Vitamin D3 is proper bone development and promoting the health of our skeleton*.

However, in recent years, a number of scientific studies have highlighted the important role of vitamin D not only in skeletal but also in overall health. Vitamin D helps reduce inflammation. In addition, it  helps  regulate and strengthen the immune system, cell growth and regulation  of metabolism. Moreover,  combination of Calcium and vitamin D help to reduce the loss of bone mineral in post-menopausal women. Low bone mineral density is a risk factor for osteoporotic bone fractures.*

It seems that food intake alone is not enough.  Few natural foods contain a sufficient amount of vitamin while fortified foods usually cannot fully meet the daily needs of Vitamin D.
So , experts  recommend:

• Exposure to the sun, preferably at noon (higher UVB / UVA radiation ratio).
• Consume oral vitamin D , in cases where the body’s needs are not met.

The main forms of vitamin D are ergocalciferol (vitamin D2) and cholecalciferol (vitamin D3). It is better to consume vitamin D3 as cholecalciferol is the natural form. In this form, it has the potential to increase total vitamin D levels more effectively.

Doses higher than 2000IU shouldn’t be administered daily without medical supervision.
